In this role, you will:

  • Drive carefully, and notify the program coordinator of any issues or concerns regarding radio or vehicle maintenance.
  • In order to guarantee client satisfaction, drivers must carefully follow the policies and procedures that were discussed during the onboarding process.
  • Perform daily mandatory MTO-regulated circle checks on the vehicle or vehicles, noting any defects and quickly topping off fluids (such as gas and windshield wiper fluid).
  • Make sure the car is clean and presentable for customers and the general public on the outside as well as the inside.
  • observes and reports any inventory items for the vehicle that need to be refilled, such as gloves, a first aid kit, etc., in accordance with the guidelines for the pre-trip inspection.
  • Reports any maintenance or repairs that may be required to be completed during business hours in order to get the car to its planned maintenance appointments.
  • Observes standard procedures when assisting clients and other people. observes all protocols when it comes to reporting and recording incidents, accidents, and/or injuries.
  • Notifies the program coordinator or a designee of any observed or possible occupational health and safety risks for employees or clients. Follows established plans to promote diversity and social justice in compliance with society’s policies and guidelines.
  • Assist customers with mobility devices, such as those pushing or maneuvering wheelchairs or folding walkers, and securely stow them during trips as needed. You may also be asked to lift heavy equipment or supplies (up to 40 lbs).

  • The bare minimum of education is a high school diploma.
  • A current Class “G” driver’s license issued by the Province of Ontario is required, as is at least two years of experience behind the wheel of commercial vehicles—cube/cargo van driving experience is preferred.
  • Good driving record (clean CVOR or driver’s abstract), familiarity with major city street locations, and aptitude for using or picking up new technical skills relevant to position.
  • To perform their job safely, they must be aware of the requirements set forth in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
  • Driving and working with senior citizens are two areas in which prior experience is valued highly.
  • Must be physically fit to carry out the necessary tasks, including lifting objects up to 40 pounds on a regular basis (such as assistive medical devices), and able to work outside in all kinds of weather.
  • Ability to work independently and politely interact with customers, the general public, and employees.
  • demonstrated knowledge of disability and poverty; proficiency in non-violent crisis intervention is a plus.
  • The capacity to communicate in relation to their job duties (including computer skills and written and verbal communication abilities) while upholding the highest standards of information confidentiality.
