Job Summary

At Amabelis De Lumban in Pickering, we are looking for a kind and committed Personal Support Worker (PSW) to join our team. Your job is to help our seniors preserve their independence and quality of life by giving them individualized care and support.

Education

Required: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent.
Preferred: Completion of a Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate program or demonstrably equivalent experience.

Experience

It is recommended if you have worked as a PSW for at least a year in a long-term care facility or a setting similar to it. But, we are also open to considering applicants that have a solid background in customer service and a sincere desire to help others.

Tasks

• Help residents with eating, dressing, toileting, and other personal care needs.
• Assist residents with walking, transferring, and utilizing assistive devices as well as with their mobility and exercise.
• As you prepare and serve the meals, make sure the residents are getting enough food and water.
• Carry out minor cleaning duties in the rooms of the residents.
• Assist residents with emotional support and company, paying attention to their worries and cultivating a good rapport.
• Keep track of residents’ care plans and notify the nursing staff of any changes to their health or wellbeing.
• Keep the surroundings tidy and secure for the occupants.
• Attend training sessions and team meetings.

Physical capabilities and working conditions

• Working weekends, evenings, and holidays is required for this employment.
• Because the labor entails lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods of time, it can be physically taxing.
• The ability to work both individually and collaboratively is a prerequisite for candidates.
• Strong communication abilities and careful attention to detail are crucial.
